This is one of a set commissioned to hang in an office lobby. Its partner piece, which will be hung facing it, can be seen here: [link] In painting these, as is the case with all my work, the dominant intention was to go beyond myself. Achieving that goal while sitting in front of a blank canvas only occurs during the creative and un-manufactured moment itself. I have my history, my biases and preferences when it comes to color and subject matter, sure- but what I'm reaching for calls for me to go to the bottom of the well that contains those individuations and start digging. It becomes apparent when gold is struck. My thoughts as I worked on this drifted through and passed, as they tend to do, without my searching for separations or divisions....and my feelings gave life to those thoughts. What occurred to me before starting on these paintings, though, was that I continued to limit paintings to a single image and idea, and that there was no reason other than habit to do this, so I thought to combine elements of different landscapes in this particular digging expedition. The joy of the creative experience- for me- is, beyond how well I'm combining elements, in the moment when I am both humbled by what I've found at the bottom of the well and deeply honored. I am thankful- because the magnificence that reveals itself in sunsets, smiles, and sometimes a work of art could not possibly belong to me and yet,- in my bones- I know who I am, who we are, why we're here, where we're going, where we're from, and that indeed, this is my very own universe. In attempting to go beyond myself, I've merely rediscovered how truly vast I am and more importantly- how vast we all are. Comments
It looks like a multicoloured lake with lots of ripples. It really calms you down when you look at it. I like it very much

I rather randomly found this picture actually, but it caught my eye immediately. There's so much you can interpret with this, it just makes it all the better. Love it -- ♪Wrap me in a bolt of lightning Send me on my way still smiling♪ Shinedown: Call Me -- Best song in the world <3 Avatar by: `krissi001 Wish I had something like this hanging on my wall; I can picture myself utterly lost midst the colour and chaos for hours... Although, this has an odd air of serenity about it, too.

If only to see it live. I would be dumbfounded. My perceptions would tingle with happiness to see such a sight. Like a picture of my old house, It would bring back memories. This, would insert them. -- These are words, that belong here, no picture, just words. Nice one one

There are three distinct sections that I can see, the top, middle, and bottom sections. The upper section seems to be the brightest due to the usage of the most white there (I don't even really see white elsewhere). The bottom seems to be like the top, remove the white. The middle seems to be almost where I see the most energy, but it's a different type from the top or bottom sections... it's like the middle section has a type of exploding or popping thing going on there, and it looks very heated from all of those warm colors. That's insane how you accomplished that. I could say that maybe it's a bit hard to look at the top part, maybe if only due to how my computer shows me such bright colors. I can only imagine how this looks in real life! I also must ask, did you use a gloss medium on this at all? I'm just curious because I bet that would enhance the shine in certain parts without a doubt.
Now let's see... the only thing I can think of is that I am finding a really hard time focusing on the top section of the piece. I almost feel it isn't quite balanced properly due to the placement of the white in the middle to middle-right corners of the top section... almost that some white to the left, even if some speckles, would do some good in the top section as well.
I really like how it is split up like that though. It lets me look at each of the sections on their own and then look at the piece as a whole. I think that was a good decision in not overwhelming the viewer.
This is a crazy fantastic piece. I really admire people who can do abstract color paintings well, and I feel you have done well here.
